Beavertown Brewery:
- I like the more detailed line qualities in these its interesting when applied to a product, it almost like an old comic strip style illustration.
- I like how the imagery is full bleed with characters that over power a lot of the text.
- Its another good example of where they use illustration to create a visual identity for the brand.
- Like I noted in previous research, they use a slightly different theme for each of the different types of beers.
- The composition in these designs are much looser and less organised in a way, but this adds to the effect.
Magic Rock Brewery:
- I really like the character design used for this brand, its is bold, simple and graphic, i like the way it is layered up and overlapped. There is a lot of ways you can play around with this and apply it to new compositions - this is what it good to apply to different packaging as it can be fit around objects and labels.
- I thought it was interesting in these to see how they use the same image but change the colours and typography to make labels for 2 different variations of the product.
- I like how they have used their characters more like a pattern running through these. It works well with the simple colour pallet and ties them together well as a series of products.
Mikkeller Brewery
- I like the illustration used in this logo, it sort of mimics the traditional logo style for beer brands - but has a characterful twist with the soft colour pallet and funny caricatures.
- The cans are really unique, i like this pastel colours and simple rounded shapes. They make a huge difference from usual beer branding.
Balistic Brewery
- I really like these label designs, they mimic a more traditional beer branding label in the colour and composition. But the images themselves are really interesting, I like how each type of beer has its own illustrated character to represent it.
After researching into beer branding and looking at how they apply illustration to there products, it has made me think about how my ideas and my theme could work being applied to a series of beers. I could have a different type of animal totem for a different type of beer. I could have lager, ale, cider, bitter and stout. or even 5 different types of ale or lager - but use my different animal hybrids to differentiate between each type.
