First Rough Sketches
- I started roughing out ideas for a tiger-goat, looking at how the 2 animals could combine. I wanted to use the tiger to base the face around - but have goat horns. I also wanted to include hooves from the goat.
- I felt these 2 animals represented land creatures well, although lots of different types of animals are present on the land - I think these work well to suggest an overview of land creatures. The animals we associate most with the land/earth are 4 legged mammals - I added some little nipples to make it obvious that it is a mammal.
- I was really keen on creating a bat creature for my air totem. They are significant animals within the air category as they are the only flying mammal.
- I wanted to combine the bat with a type of bird - maybe an eagle, using the bats head and body - with eagle wings, tail and claws.
- Across all my designs i will be experimenting with how I can apply tribal patterns and decorations to them, to create the totem like feel to them, and make them appear as animals of worship.
- The reptile totem was really fun to play around with, I new I wanted to combine a snake with a turtle some how - but there was still a lot of different options. A crocodile head or a kobra head? Include frog legs or not??
- Reptile figures come in lots of weired shapes and sizes - I wanted to make sure my character had a good solid structure and didn't just look like loads of different reptile body parts flung together. This applies to all my designs - I want the formation of the figures to make sense.
- The water creatures was also fun to play around - again due to the abnormal shapes of sea creatures.
- I was really drawn to combining a shark and an octopus, but it could be a hammerhead shark? and could also include a fish tail aswell?
- Looking at these roughs now I think the hammer head shark is a step to far - it looks weird enough a normal shark with the octopus legs.
