Idea Change!!

I have had a change in idea after researching further into my topics, I want to forget about the idea of communicating animal welfare through cruelty free/vegan products. I got too caught up in trying to make my illustrations link directly to the end products themselves, I want to focus on the development of my imagery before thinking to much about what they can be applied too.

• I want to focus on the idea of animal totems and spirit animals, and produce an illustration for each of the totem categories AIR - LAND - WATER - INSECT - REPTILE. I want to design my own creature for each of the totems.
• After looking at mythological beings it gave me the idea to combine different types of animals from each of the categories, to create 5 animal hybrid creatures that represent each of the different animal totem categories.
• I will look at how I can display the different traits/meanings/powers of the animals within my illustrations.

I did some quick sketches experimenting with animals I could combine. 

Snake, frog and turtle for the reptile. Bat and eagle for air.

Tiger and a goat for the land creature. And a shark octopus for water. I also made some notes on the different meanings behind the animals, Octopus - Mystery, magic, complex, fluidity, motion.

I thought about a few different combinations for the insect, a slug and a scorpion, a slug and a butterfly, a snail and a butterfly, a praying mantis and a butterfly.

Product Idea:

I could make an info book about the creatures that I create, it could give information about each of the totems and what them mean on one page - and then have a print of the animal I create on the other.
