Large Scale Commissions - Reflective Statement
Working on all of the different large scale commissions have definitely been my most enjoyable projects to work on. I enjoy to work on a large scale and getting more physically involved with my work. It involves a totally different set of practical skills when working on a 3D surface with spray paint and other paint pen media. I enjoy to see how my illustration ideas translate to a larger scale, I find the aesthetic of my designs are different on large scale to small scale just because of the tools and process used to create them. This area of my practice is where I feel I have developed the most in, and is probably the area I am most passionate about. Its was a really good achievement for me to get commissioned to work on the interior of another bar this year (Neon Cactus). I was commissioned last year to do a bar and for ages I had been secretly hoping another similar project would present itself, so receiving the commission was an achievement in itself for me. Overall these briefs have helped me discover a lot about my practice - how I can apply different process to different tasks - and above all how much I enjoy large scale mural work and that this is the key thing I want to push within my skills and the key thing I would advertise about my self, practically, professionally and aesthetically. Working on things like the Faulds Barbers shop logo was beneficial to see how I could use a slightly different skill set to achieve a more commercial outcome.
