Event Flyers - Reflective Statement
I have learnt a lot from working on the different event flyers designs. The fact the briefs had a quicker turn around meant I used a different skill set. I worked with photoshop and illustrator a lot in order to complete the flyers. The artwork I created was less abstract and experimental I found myself working more neat and precisely with my outlines in order too compose my illustrations properly on the flyers and also make them translate well digitally. My favourite flyer out of the set is the twisted roots flyer, I think it works best with the typography, I found that this brief in particle very useful to work on, it gave me some practice applying typography to my illustrations, I surprisingly enjoyed working with the text - Im pleased because I need to start being more comfortable with using text within my work all together. I had a few problems collaborating on some of the flyers and was unhappy with final outcomes but it taught me some really valuable lessons about general team work and time management. If you don't take firm control over how you want the final designs to look, people can easily mess up your intentions with a design - especially if you are working with a very short time limit! Sometimes its more important to get the work finished and printed in time, even f your not happy with it. But overall I like having the event flyers as a direction for my practice, there is a high demand for event promotion illustration and I keep finding each flyer leading me into another event project. I would eventually like to progress from the small scale events into working with larger festival event promotion - I feel like my work be well suited to this kind of work. I dont feel like the final aesthetics of the flyers where a massive achievement, I more pleased with the technical skills I learnt whilst creating and applying my illustrations.
