Extended Practice - Coffee Box Commission

Brief:
  • I was approached by a business man who had just bought a new portable coffee box called 'refuel coffee box'. It was mainly parked on the road outside the uni - this is because it was a good busy area for business, it had lots of students walking past all the time. It was also going to be rented out for events because it could be transported.
  • Somebody passed him my number to him for commissioning some artwork. I met up with him and discussed ideas and prices...
  • He wanted the whole box covering in art and he was willing let me create a design of my own that rapped all the way around each side - the only specifics he had was that he wanted me too use purple in the design that would match the existing sign (which I would mask up).
  • There wasn't quite as much money involved in the project as I had anticipated, but it was such a good opportunity that would gain me good recognition and advertisement in a really busy area of leeds.

Sketch Designs:

Figuring out paint prices...
  • Organising the amount of paint needed for the project proved to be more difficult than other commissions I had worked on. - I assumed I would need a lot less than I actually did (neerly twice as much) - I think this could have had something to do with the paint sinking into the wooden surface. In future its good to note that its important to figure out the environment your working with properly before starting - this could have done with a coat of emulsion paint before spraying just to save spray paint its not essential to the finish product.

Finished Coffee Box:

  • I wanted to take advantage of the good advertisement opportunity and wrote my name in big letters on 2 sides so people would be able to find me if they needed - I should really start making sure I get my name on more of my commissions!!
