Extended Practice - 'ADD.LIFE & EXPLORE' Animation

The screen printed design for Add Life had gone down really well at the events. The clients said they had lots of good feedback from the people and also the brands that are sponsoring it. Due to this they wanted to develop the screen print even further for the website and they asked me if I could bring the design to life by animating different sections.

  • I sent them over some ideas of how I could apply actions and movements to parts of the design.
  • I wanted to use cut out parts of the design and animate them in a looping gif style animation.

  • I cut out the pieces I wanted to move on photoshop and then recreated the background behind it, I had all my different movable objects on different layers so that I could easily transfer them over to After Effects.
  • I had to overcome a number of different problems in after effects as I am still new to using it, in my first attempt the file sizes where totally messed up and I didn't realise I needed to make the animation a specific size in order to be published on the website.
  • The crafting of the movements was complex and I had a nightmare with getting the angles and proportions of the canoe coming down the river. Making the fish jump out of the water was really difficult but eventually I made it work.
  • I applied sound effects to the animation and some subtle background noises of the outdoors to fit with the theme. I didn't want to go to crazy with the sound just enough to bring the scene to life and put some emphasis on the actions happening within the scene.
