Alice Kiteley:
I think this screen print is interesting because she uses a combination of pictures that have very different visual qualities. She has an astro naught that is photo realistic and uses half tone dots to give the photographic appearance. She then has stars that are loosely hand drawn and characterful. And then uses solid block shapes that appear almost digital. I think the combination of all these thing in one composition produced in the same media is really unusual and effective. This technique is very unique to screen printing because of the variation of imagery that can printed in this way. This to me seems like collaging with screen printing. I think she works in a much looser and less precise way of screen printing, compared to some artist that rely on their layers lining up exactly.

I really like this screen print. It appears almost like a line drawing but has a really effective use of subtle yellow shapes that sit behind the outline. The image is very linear and works well as vignette illustration. Its interesting to see how a simple use of shape sat behind an outline can be used. I especially like the yellow circle at the bottom, where the black line goes underneath it but doesn't touch it.
