Storyboarding - Study Task 5

We had to take some of the imagery and compositions we had been using for the other briefs and look at how they could be animated, having one element that stays still, one element that moves horizontal and one element that moves vertically. What sections would work well being moved? Or what could happen in the images?

  • This is the peyote brain character, I thought about separating the brain from the head and making it fly into the head (entering the composition), doing the same with his glasses but from another direction.
  • And then make them fly off his face again and exit the composition, but with a different movement (different pace, or gesture)
  • This could work well for a 10 second sting, with some weird sound effects to go with the movements and help communicate the ideas psychedelic/hallucinations.

  • I had done roughs that involve Huxley walking down some stairs.
  • I thought I could animate him walking down the stairs, with peyotes all different sizes flying past him.
  • Moving the peyotes would be simple to animate and still look good, but making him walk would be a lot more complicated.
  • Im not sure i have enough experience with After Effects to make him look as though he is walking down stairs, id rather look at ways I can use simpler movements with the appropriate images that don't need as much After Effects work.

  • I thought about this idea, taken from my mono prints, and looks at ways I had been deconstructing faces.
  • It starts with black outlines of facial features.
  • A brain and then a face shape enter the composition from different directions, and fit around the outline creating a the face.
  • They then move off the face, continuing across the composition. Like they stopped and paused around the face, and then continued going
  • This idea could also be made more complicated with loads of different shapes that fit around the face and abstract it, it could be effective and wouldn't take too much crafting on after effects.

The Doors Of Perception Ideas...

  • Thought I could make some interesting ideas from my doors and staircase roughs, and play with the idea of the stairs moving through the door, and could have the huxley character on the stairs.
  • Would be communicating/representing going through the door ways of perception, could even put text to help explain the idea.
  • This idea would involve a doorway that sits in the centre, and then loads of different staircase enter the screen and make up a complex tangle of stairs.
  • The good thing about these ideas is how the objects are separated up nicely ready to make simple movements.
  • I though this could look interesting, having a spiral staircase that winds down and fits perfectly through a door way and continues to spiral down.
  • The spiral effect could be hard to achieve, but I could mess around with the perspective and camera angle to make it work.
To make a successful animation i'm going to need to get on After Effects and start messing around with the tools too get a feel for how it works, and help me figure out whats possible. I learnt the basics in the workshop but I need to see how it can be applied to my printed images.
