Huxley Face - Photocopying

Huxley Caricature...

I refined some of my recent Huxley sketches and also ones from last brief into this design. Im really pleased with it and I like how it has a sort of twisted and surreal appearance. I like how his eyes sink back into his head almost like he is looking inside his mind.. this communicates the ideas of psychedelia. The line pattern and detail starting to form on his face also works well, It would be interesting to see how I could push this further and make it more abstract.

I scanned and edited the design on photoshop, it makes a nice linear design and some interesting print ideas could be taken from the face alone but I wanted to see what I could do with it amongst some different compositions of shape.

I photo copied the face and experimented with drawing around them too get some ideas for some screen print designs. Im liking the use of triangles, and also the simplified peyote shapes. Im just not sure how well they are being used within the compositions.

My favourite composition is the bottom right. The shapes work well together and are balance out well across the page. They also surround the face well, and give a clustered/busy feeling which could suite my theme well. I just feel like the shapes are too forced and un natural, and creates and almost obvious and basic design. Compared to the face on its own Im not sure these designs are effective. I don't want too take any of these ideas furthers, but this was an interesting process to build onto an existing image too get ideas for prints.
