Tell an untold story - Visual Journalist - Theme park

Visual Journalist - Abandoned theme park

I went on a day trip to find the an abandoned theme park called Camelot. It was shut down in 2012 and has been left abandoned ever since. I took a lot of pictures when I was in there to make sure I had enough to work from when I got back. These are some of the best:
  • The place was visually interesting and had an unusual atmosphere.
  • It was like a forgotten and derelict fairy tale world.
  • The whole place was medieval themed and all the building where brightly coloured and made with unique shapes.
  • The bright medieval buildings combined with the derelict overgrown surroundings created a really interesting atmosphere and appearance.

I really like this photo, I like the perspective and how the buildings are resting on the sky line. The yellow colour against the grainy grey floor captures the atmosphere of the place. It has given me some ideas for colour schemes.

There was a massive roller coaster which looked awesome, so I climbed up it and got a good view of the whole place.

This building looked cool, I liked the shape.

  • The area was erie and mysterious and gave me the sense that I was walking through someones make - believe village.
  • It was quite and felt asif we where the only people for miles. But when we least expected it we heard some voices coming from across the park.
  • We hid behind a barrier/fence and waited as the voices got closer and closer.
A photo my friend took of us hiding behind the fence from security.
  • When the people where almost directly in front of us we realised it was security guards and we decided to run off. We darted off and jumped back over the fence and got back in the car.
  • I don't know if the security saw us or even chased us. I didn't stop to check.
  • This experience was perfect for my narrative and also the place.
  • I needed to look back at my photos and revisit them and find images I can work with to develop my story.

  • There was so much to take it in such a small space of time, I would have stayed longer and produced observational drawings but are time was up when we bumped into security.
  • I took loads of photos on a digital camera to work from when I got home. I also took a 35mm film camera with me to see if that would help capture the eeriness and derelict atmosphere. So I had 36 pics from that camera to get developed.
