The briefs I have chosen to do are:
- Roald Dahl Characters
- Decks For Change
- The Libertine Bar Interior Design
- Illustration Friday??
- To what extent will the briefs will allow you to meet your criteria for success within the module:
These briefs will allow me too meet success because they involve character design which is something i'm keen to develop, but also giving me mandatory requirements when refining the ideas, similar to real life briefs. They all involve conceptual thinking and communicating a message/theme (eg. Decks for Change - Raising awareness about an issue). 'The Libertine interior design' will help me develop my practical painting skills massively, and help me realise how large scale spray painting could potentially be a part of my creative practice/career.
- To what extent will the briefs benefit you with regards to the value of entering competition briefs:
The competitive aspect of the briefs will help me get used to working towards a specific set outcome outside of uni, similar to working for a client within the industry. The fact it is a competition and my work will be looked at by all manner of different people and compared to other work, makes me want to perfect my artwork to the best of my ability, and show off my skills as best I can.
- Identify any technical or skills challenges that may need addressing:
There will be many technical challenges that I encounter when completing the briefs. In the Roald Dahl brief the characters need to work as a matching set, so media considerations will be needed to make sure it works well across all of the designs. I will encounter many practical challenges when painting the bar, translating the rough designs into a much larger scale, organising the amount of paint/materials needed and also pricing my work will be difficult.
Decks For Change Brief:
Decks For Change Brief:

- What is the brief asking you to do about it/them?
Produce a piece of illustration that works appropriately for a skateboard design, and that also communicates a positive message within it.
- What is the brief trying to achieve?
Awareness about the issues addressed in each of designs. And promoting creativity and positivity in relation to skateboarding culture.
- Who will benefit?
Skateboarders, Young people, Creatives, Anyone suffering from issues addressed in the artwork.
- What is the message?
Each persons designs will have individual messages. But an overall message could be that you can achieve communicate through all different kinds of products like skateboard decks.
- Who is the audience?
Young people, Skateboarders, Creatives
- How will the message be delivered?
The winners will be on real skateboards and displayed in an exhibition, some designs will be through social media.
- Can you foresee any problems in responding to the brief?
Finding an appropriate way of communicating a message that also works well for skateboarding art work could be difficult. Fitting the concept I chose to communicate onto a deck format will be difficult and could take some crating and roughing.
