- Im really pleased with the final outcomes, the black outlines refines all the characters nicely and brings out the vibrancy in all the colours.
- I like the random compositions that are tied together with colours and face shapes and arms, I will continue to look at how I can combine faces and huge exaggerated arms into interesting compositions, especially when working on a large scale.
- I like the look of the small ghost looking faces, id never painted these before, I think they make a nice differentiation to the big more complex faces and work well in the same composition.
- I feel I have improved my painting skills a lot within this brief, just by having the time and space to experiment with spray paint - and also working for a client and needed to perfect the outcome.
- I have also learnt new ways that the paint can be layered up and patterned within my character designs, I felt I could work much more freely and take time to think about what will work well. This project has given me a lot more confidence in my large scale mural work and is definitely something I want to continue doing.
- I found pricing it really really difficult. There where lots of things to take into account like the materials, my time, and the outcome itself, and the fact this was my first ever mural commission so I had nothing to compare it too. I wrote him an official invoice where I added up the price of the materials, and then my daily charge (it took me 2 days all together). Looking back at it now and all the feed back I think I undercharged him slightly. Even the client himself told me he was expecting almost double what I charged him!! Either way this has taught me some valuable lessons in pricing commissions and dealing with clients. My main lessons is have more confidence in my work when it comes to selling it not just creating it.
Close ups:
The client was really pleased with how the bar looked. He wanted something to liven up the bar, and bring some colour to the place so he could start holding more events there and try to reach out to some new younger custom, so this was the right kind of design.
It took a lot of interest over face book and I had people asking me for other commissions almost straight after.
