Visual Communication - 3D Giff Development

Initial Idea:

  • I wanted to make my Sasquatch character again out of play doe but I just wasn't happy with how it looked. Id intended to make it and then experiment by moulding it into different positions.
  • I tried to draw with paint pen onto the play doe and it didn't work very well. I didn't want to do any more with my play doe character I was afraid it would look un professional and badly crafted.

Chopped Face:

  • I went back to look at an earlier idea of a face that glitches and the features change.
  • This could be an interesting gif if I could find a good way of creating the faces.

  • I did this drawing on a pizza tray randomly a while ago with no intention of using it for college. But this could fit perfectly for the glitch face Idea, and is a perfect circle shape which looks good.
  • It is also a nice material that paint markers work nicely on.

  • I then had the idea to create another face similar to that one that filled the entire circle and then chop it up and jumble the parts around or make them spread out.
  • I though if I made it then I could experiment with different movements of the pieces after. And also re arrange them in different ways.

Final 3D gif:

  • I really enjoyed making the face, It was fun filling in the sections with the facial features.
  • I like how the pieces slide together, I think the movement is interesting I wasn't sure if it work nicely as a loop. Although I think I could have got a much cleaner finish if I had used a tripod.
  • I don't like the way the lighting changes in the back ground and the crease in the paper is visible. If I was to do this again I would set it up in a proper lighting studio. Not on my bed!
  • I like the glitchy effect in the movements and I think the arrangements of the pieces works well, how it creates 2 different faces and switches between the two.
  • Using photographs was a interesting way to see how you can create motion, sort of like a stop motion animation. It was easier than having to draw each frame and meant I could experiment with all kinds of orientations and movements.
