Visual language - Photoshop

Photoshop session

I used in my favourite ink drawing to edit on photoshop, I scanned it at 700 DPI because I'm working digitally, if it was to print it out I would set it to 300 DPI.

First I altered the colour levels of the image making them darker and made the background white by selecting a colour range and pasting the image on a white background.

This was my favourite black and white experiment. I reduced the amount of grey tone in the image and made the black more solid. The edges of the image look crisp and I like the way the tone looks less watery and faint than in the original.

I looked at how I could adjust the hue and saturation levels and colour contrast. I got some interesting effects with this, I like the look of the orange brush strokes against the purple. I locked the colour layers and then painted the outline of his face black, I think this enhanced the image.

I experimented with adding some texture to his face with some different brush tools.

We created our own brush tool using a section of our design. I then used it to put a coloured texture behind the outline, I think this looks good and is good way to get interesting textures.

I looked at adding texture using a photo placing it different ways behind the image. I think I need to practise more with applying texture in this way, to get more natural and realistic effects.

Tribal character

I wanted to have a go at applying colour and altering the line quality of one of my pencil drawings.

Firstly I made the background solid white and blackened the outline. I then erased any unnecessary pencil marks and cleaned up the outline. I then added colour on a new layer behind my outline. I'm pleased with this outcome, I want to further explore digitally colouring and enhancing my hand drawn designs.
