I came across this illustrator called Eva Bee on Ape On The Moon website, i'm not usually drawn to this sort of aesthetic in illustration but I found her ideas interesting to look at because it shows her rough idea sketches of the same theme. Looking at different ways that she had portrayed the same idea using different imagery.
These illustrations are communication about the dangers that journalists are facing in Africa when investigating environmental crimes. I really like how she has suggested that they are being 'targeted' by putting a target with shots in on his chest, this works as a visual metaphor, and gives the message intended instantly.
This was one of her rough designs, the idea works really nicely I think I prefer this concept to her finished one. Its a quick way of putting across a complicated situation. Its like two images in one, you can see it as a man behind bars, or a note pad on the floor. I think this a really good technique when working with editorial.
Another one of her editorials that is looking at the idea of space tourism. Its a simple concept but is really effective. The classic holiday clothing in yellow against the deep blue creates an interesting contrast between them, representing the huge difference in the type of experience it would be to the usual holiday. Its interesting to see how the colour pallet can be used as a way to speak about the imagery.
